Philosophy
Djehooty is based on four fundamental principles:
-
Free software: Djehooty is committed to sharing, openness and freedom. Its source code, distributed under the AGPLv3 license (GNU Affero General Public License v3.0), guarantees everyone the right to use, study, modify and contribute to the project.
-
Privacy and data sovereignty: Data remains under the exclusive control of the user, stored locally on their computer. No reliance on third-party platforms without prior consent: the confidentiality and sustainability of archives are ensured.
-
Technical simplicity and sustainability: Contrary to trends towards increasing complexity, Djehooty favors simple technical choices (simple files, SQLite database) as much as possible to facilitate installation, backup and transmission of research, even for non-technical people. This approach guarantees the durability and accessibility of data over the long term.
-
Accessibility: Djehooty is committed to complying with digital accessibility standards to ensure optimal use by everyone, particularly people with visual impairments.
The application aims to remain intuitive for genealogists while meeting the requirements of archivists, in accordance with the fundamental concepts of archival science.
