Djehooty 0.5.0: Thumbnails, extended viewer and automatic migration
Djehooty v0.5.0 has been available for a few days. This new update, released on April 15, improves the internal management of thumbnails and now allows associating a thumbnail with an individual. This way, individuals can be more easily identified through their portrait or any thumbnail of your choice.
This is a first step in personalizing individuals. It will subsequently be possible to search for a thumbnail within the documents on which an individual is identified. Users will eventually be able to select an area within an image to zoom in on a face or a signature, for example.
The viewer previously only supported images. It now handles PDF, audio, and video formats. The browser natively supports these formats for the time being. The interface will be progressively improved for better integration and better support of different file formats.

Database migration support is introduced by v0.5.0. This new version therefore benefits from an automatic database migration from v0.4.0. A maintenance task now runs at startup to ensure the consistency of thumbnail-related data.
Furthermore, the djehooty.org documentation has been thoroughly revised to clarify the first steps and the installation of Djehooty. The project's presentation has also been revised. Djehooty no longer presents itself as a "genealogist's assistant" but as "a free and local archive manager for genealogists, researchers, and archivists". The genealogy use case is one use case among others.
Details regarding Windows and macOS support have been added, as well as information on the use of AI.
The demo server has been updated with v0.5.0.

What's next?
We continue to work on the best way to group documents together. Several approaches are being studied: folders and collections. The goal is to move away as much as possible from the classic file hierarchy. That said, the idea is not to lose the ability to group documents together in a simple and intuitive way. We hope to be able to offer a first solution in an upcoming version. If you are interested in this topic, feel free to share your ideas and needs with us on this subject.
Furthermore, support for dates in different calendars is also a topic we are working on, but which is currently on hold in order to focus more on documentary features.
Short-term topics are therefore refocusing on:
- document categorization
- the creation of a command-line client (djehooty-cli), making it easier to import large numbers of documents compared to using djehooty-frontend.
The Djehooty backlog is growing steadily.
Migration from v0.4.0
A Djehooty database created with v0.4.0 will be automatically converted to the v0.5.0 format when the application starts. If you experience any migration issues, do not hesitate to contact us.
